At East Texas A&M, our Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with a double major in Art provides you with both an intensive background in theoretical knowledge and professional skills in art and instructional strategies and teaching methods. To teach you must successfully complete at least two TExES examinations (Texas Examinations of Educator Standards); one in the content area and one in the area of pedagogy and professional responsibilities.

Program Details

Our Secondary and All-Level Education programs allow you to earn a double major—combining in-depth study in your chosen teaching field with professional education coursework.

What Will I Learn?

Double majoring in secondary education with art offers you the opportunity to:

  • Understand various teaching methodologies.
  • Explore the global history of art, from prehistoric periods to today.
  • Consider instructional strategies that engage all learners.

Residency Opportunities

At East Texas A&M our secondary education programs feature a year-long teaching residency. This clinically intensive experience, using a co-teaching model in partner districts, helps you build practical skills and apply your expertise, preparing you for grade 7 to 12 instruction with qualifications often exceeding those of a second-year teacher.
