Online and Face-to-Face

Our master’s program offers the flexibility of both online and face-to-face courses. Classes are available at our main campus and the Mesquite Metroplex Center, allowing you to choose the format that best fits your schedule and learning style.

There is a three-semester face-to-face sequence of PSY 691 Clinical Practicum (3 credit hours) and PSY 699 Internship Clinical Psychology (6 credit hours), which is conducted at our on-campus training clinic in Commerce while under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to help prepare you for professional roles in mental health settings or further doctoral studies. Our program offers two pathways:

  • Thesis: This track emphasizes research, requiring you to complete a thesis project.
  • Non-Thesis: This track focuses on practical application, substituting the thesis requirement with additional coursework.

Both options encompass a comprehensive curriculum covering abnormal psychology, cognitive behavior therapy, developmental psychology and psychological assessment. You’ll also engage in clinical practicum and internship experiences to apply your knowledge in real-world settings. You will be well-equipped for careers in clinical practice, counseling, and related fields or to pursue advanced academic opportunities.

Licensed Psychological Associate

The requirements for obtaining licensure as a psychological associate generally include:

  • A graduate degree in psychology, consisting of at least 60 semester credit hours, with no more than 12 hours of practicum, internship, or structured experience counted toward the total degree hour requirement
  • Demonstrate proof of graduate-level coursework by identifying courses/training listed on the applicant's transcript
  • 6 semester credit hours of practicum, internship, or other structured experience within the graduate degree program while under the supervision of a licensed psychologist
  • Pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology
  • Pass the Jurisprudence Examination.

Requirements for independent practice authority for licensed psychological associates:

  • A minimum of 3,000 hours of post-graduate degree supervised experience obtained within 24-48 consecutive months and in not more than three placements
  • Application for independent practice authority to the Board.

Request three signed letters of recommendation on letterhead from professionals who can attest to your goals and ability to succeed in the program. Those individuals should:

Submit a statement of educational and professional goals of 500 words or less on the following prompt:

  • Discuss your educational and professional goals and how you believe this graduate degree will help you achieve them.

Submit a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) which includes your academic and professional history and achievements.

You do not need to submit GRE scores if you have:

  • a completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a 3.25 GPA overall or higher
  • a completed master’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a 3.25 GPA overall or higher

If you do not meet the GPA exemption criteria, request that your GRE® scores be sent to East Texas A&M University (6188) when you register for the test. If you have already taken the GRE®, you can order additional score reports.

We accept evaluations sent directly from the following Agencies.

  • If a normal evaluation is submitted, official original transcripts with all marksheets will still need to be submitted.
  • If a WES ICAP or equivalent is submitted, we will not need the official transcripts to be submitted separately.

Describe your preparation for graduate work, your academic interests and goals in no more than 500 words.

Submit a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) which includes your academic and professional history and achievements.

  • a completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a 3.25 GPA overall or higher
  • a completed master’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a 3.25 GPA overall or higher

You do not need to submit test scores if you have completed (all years) of a bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited university in the United States.

Request that your scores from one of the following be sent to East Texas A&M University:

  • TOEFL (Minimum Scores: IBT 79, or CBT 213, or PBT 550)
  • IELTS (Minimum Score: 6.00 band overall)
  • PTE (Minimum Score: 53 overall or higher)
  • Duo Lingo (Minimum Score: 105)

*Scores must be less than two years old.

  • Official sponsor statement
  • Bank statement from the sponsor with a balance of at least $33,601 USD which is less than six months old
