Field Based Teacher Candidate Resources: Admission Requirements to the Undergraduate Educator Preparation Program (EPP)
A student must be admitted to the Undergraduate Educator Preparation Program (EPP) to be approved to enroll in specialization coursework, as indicated on the student's DegreeWorks.
To be eligible for admission to the Undergraduate Educator Preparation Program (EPP), you must meet the following requirements:
- Overall GPA: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.65.
- TSI Completion: Be TSI complete in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
- Content Coursework: Complete the minimum required semester credit hours in the certification content area you are seeking:
- 12 semester credit hours for most certification areas (e.g., Core Subjects, English Language Arts and Reading, Social Studies, PK–3, etc.).
- 15 semester credit hours for Mathematics and Science certification areas, including:
- 4–8 Mathematics
- 4–8 Science
- 4–8 Mathematics/Science
- 6-12 Physical Science
- 7–12 Mathematics
- 7–12 Science
- 7-12 Chemistry
- 7-12 Life Science
- Accept Your Admission Offer: If admitted, you must accept your offer of admission through the Educator Portal by the deadline provided. Failure to accept your admission offer by the designated deadline will result in your admission being withdrawn.
Once you’re ready to apply to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP), complete your application through the Educator Portal.
Before You Begin
Have the following information ready:
- East Texas A&M University credentials
- University email address
- Semester you’re applying for admission
- Payment confirmation of required fees: TEA Assessment Fee and Undergraduate EPP Application Fee
- Please access Market Place to pay both the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Assessment Fee ($35) and the Undergraduate EPP Application Fee ($50). Both fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. You will upload your confirmation receipt of both fees when completing the application.
Apply
Step 1: Access the Educator Portal
Choose the portal that matches your program:
Step 2: Sign In
- Select Login via University SSO.
- Choose East Texas A&M University as your institution.
- Log in using your myLEO credentials.
Step 3: Start Your Application
Complete the required information:
- First name
- Last name
- University email address
- Current semester
Select Start Application.
Step 4: Complete the Application
Complete every section of the admission application.
Please upload the receipts for the following fees:
- $35 TEA Assessment Fee
- $50 Admission Application Fee
Step 5: Submit Your Application
When you’ve completed all sections:
- Select Submit as Final to send your application.
- If you’re not finished, choose Save as Draft and return later.
After submission, the Certification Office will review your application.
Step 6: Watch for Your Admission Decision
You’ll receive your decision by email.
If you’re admitted
Your email will include instructions to:
- Accept your admission offer
- Enter your TEA ID
- Complete all required acknowledgments
Important: You must accept your offer by the deadline listed in your email. Failure to do so will result in your admission offer being withdrawn.
If you aren’t admitted
Your email will explain why you did not meet the admission requirements and outline your next steps.
Accepting Your Admission Offer
If you’re admitted, complete the following steps in the Educator Portal.
Step 1: Accept Admission
Select Accept Admission.
Important: Admission offers must be accepted within 7 days of the offer and before the first day of classes. If you do not accept by the deadline, you will be removed from the program and must reapply under current admission requirements.
Step 2: Create Your TEAL Account
If you don’t already have one, create a Texas Education Agency Login (TEAL) account through the Educator Portal.
This account provides your TEA ID.
If you already have a TEAL account, simply continue to the next step.
Step 3: Enter Your TEA ID
Locate your TEA ID in your TEAL account.
In the Educator Portal:
- Select Edit next to the missing TEA ID field.
- Enter your TEA ID.
- Save your changes.
Step 4: Complete the Required Acknowledgments
After entering your TEA ID:
- Review all required acknowledgments.
- Accept the acknowledgments.
- Complete your admission.
Once admitted, required trainings will appear under Assignments in the Educator Portal. Please complete these trainings only when enrolled in the designated coursework and instructed to do so.
