Take courses that prepare you to teach by deepening both your subject knowledge and your understanding of how students learn. Hands-on fieldwork and classroom experiences give you the chance to apply what you've learned, practice your teaching skills, and gain confidence working with students in real school settings.

Students interested in teaching high school will earn a BA/BS in Secondary Education with either an emphasis or double major in their chosen subject area.

Teach Your Passion

Each path combines coursework in your chosen discipline with hands-on classroom experience, preparing you to lead with confidence and connect your passion to real student learning.

If you're passionate about health, fitness, and working with students of all ages, the Physical Education K–12 emphasis is a great fit. This program prepares you to teach physical education in both elementary and secondary schools, combining instructional methods with hands-on training in movement, wellness and classroom management.

If you’re driven to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with diverse learning needs, the Special Education EC–12 emphasis equips you to do just that. This program prepares you to teach and support students from early childhood through high school, focusing on strategies for inclusive instruction, behavior management and individualized education plans (IEPs).

The Hispanic Studies emphasis prepares you to teach Spanish by building your language skills and deepening your understanding of Hispanic cultures. This double major allows you to take the Texas Spanish LOTE (Languages Other Than English) certification exam.

The Art K–12 emphasis prepares you to teach visual arts to students from elementary through high school. You’ll develop your own artistic skills while learning how to create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that inspire creativity in the classroom.

The Theatre K–12 emphasis prepares you to teach and direct theatre at all grade levels. You’ll build your performance and production skills while learning how to lead creative, collaborative and inclusive theatre experiences in the classroom.
