Empower Students as a Reading Specialist

Many children struggle with reading at a basic level and often need individualized instruction. You can help improve their literacy skills by becoming a licensed reading specialist. Reading specialists work alongside K-12 educators and often provide one-on-one instruction for students struggling with reading and writing comprehension. Through our program, you can train to develop individualized plans to address reading difficulties. Offered as part of the master’s in curriculum and instruction program, you can earn your certification in no time.

Note: This certification is only offered as a stand-alone program if you already have a master’s degree.

Empowering Educators to Close the Literacy Gap

The National Assessment of Educational Progress’s (NAEP) latest reports show that educators must close the achievement gaps in reading by developing advanced skills in literacy assessment, intervention, and leadership to support all K–12 learners.

  • 40% of 4th graders perform below the basic reading level (NAEP)
  • 33% of 8th graders are not meeting basic reading standards (NAEP)
  • Literacy achievement gaps continue to widen nationwide, highlighting the urgent need for skilled reading specialists (NAEP)
