A Conversation with Dr. Clinkscales

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending East Texas A&M?

Students considering East Texas A&M can benefit from learning alongside a wide range of supportive faculty who bring professional and research experiences to their program. Approaching one's educational experience with curiosity and an openness to new perspectives, ideas, and opportunities can make a meaningful difference in personal and professional growth. Taking advantage of opportunities as they arise, whether through research, professional development, or volunteer work, often leads to some of the most valuable learning experiences during one's time in their educational career.

What draws you to your discipline?

I am drawn to the field of school psychology because it sits at the intersection of psychology and education, allowing me to apply psychological knowledge in ways that directly support students in school settings. I value the opportunity to meet students and families where they are and to help increase access to supports and services for those who may need them most. I am also drawn to the breadth of the discipline, school psychologists can make meaningful impacts through assessment, consultation, intervention, and systems-level work, all of which contribute to improving the well-being and success of children and the communities that support them.
