This innovative graduate degree is designed for students who want to work at the intersection of sports science, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and data analytics. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines expertise from Health and Human Performance and Computer Science, students develop the knowledge and technical skills needed to collect, manage, analyze, and interpret complex sport and human performance data. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, applied learning, and real-world problem solving to prepare graduates for careers in the rapidly evolving sports industry.

$500/Semester Quick Start Grant
You may be eligible for this renewable $250 or $500 grant if you are a new student starting your master’s degree program in Summer 2026, Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.

Program Details
The M.S. in Sports Science and Data Analytics blends sports science with programming, statistics, AI, and data visualization to help students analyze performance, reduce injury risk, and support decision-making. A hands-on practicum provides real-world experience applying these skills in sport and exercise settings.
What Will I Learn?
You will have the opportunity to gain experience in a number of key areas.
Sports Science and Biomechanics
Develop an advanced understanding of physiological and biomechanical principles related to movement, performance, and human function.
Data Analytics and Visualization
Learn how to acquire, manage, analyze, and visualize data to generate meaningful insights in sport and performance settings.
Programming, Statistics and AI Applications
Build technical skills in programming, statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and artificial intelligence as applied to practical challenges in sports science.

Taking Classes
Our flexible program is designed for students seeking advanced training in both sport science and analytics. Courses are supported by faculty in Health and Human Performance and Computer Science, creating an interdisciplinary graduate experience with both theoretical and applied learning opportunities. Hybrid
This hybrid program combines online coursework with applied learning experiences to provide both flexibility and hands-on preparation for professional practice. The face-to-face courses are in the Nursing and Health Sciences building on the main campus in Commerce. You can take courses in the fall, spring and summer semesters.

FACILITIES and TECHNOLOGY
Students in this program have access to advanced tools and technologies used in sport science and human performance research. Through hands-on experiences, you will work with equipment and software designed to assess movement, physiology and performance outcomes.
Resources may include:
- Motion capture and movement analysis systems
- Body composition and bone density analysis
- Metabolic testing equipment for physiological assessment
- Wearable and sensor-based performance tracking technologies
- Data analysis and visualization software
- Applied research laboratories supporting human performance and sport science
These resources allow students to gain practical experience collecting, analyzing and interpreting real-world data.

Curriculum
Students complete 36 semester credit hours, including 23 credit hours in Health and Human Performance and 13 credit hours in Computer Science and Information Systems. The curriculum is intentionally interdisciplinary, combining graduate coursework in sport science, biomechanics, exercise physiology, programming, artificial intelligence, statistical analysis, and data-driven decision-making. A required practicum provides applied industry experience and helps students translate classroom learning into professional skill development.
