Become a Leader in the STEM Field
Gain hands-on experience with advanced chemical instrumentation, including Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy, atomic absorption and gas and liquid chromatography. The program explores the skills and practical knowledge needed for work in the chemical sciences, from doctoral research to teaching at the community college or public school level, or roles in government and industry.

Program Details
A master’s in chemistry offers advanced training in chemical theory and laboratory skills, preparing you for careers in research, industry and academia.

Our program offers flexible learning options, including traditional face-to-face classes on our main campus and hybrid courses that combine in-person and online instruction. This structure allows you to engage in hands-on learning while enjoying the convenience of online courses. Curriculum
Our department offers four different tracks that cater to your research interests and career goals. Discover which program works best for you.
Thesis
The traditional thesis track consists of ten courses (30 credit hours) plus a 6-hour thesis course. This track is ideal for those interested in further graduate work or professional programs, offering one-on-one faculty mentorship and research opportunities.
Professional Chemistry (Non-Thesis)
Our 34-hour program lets you complete research in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry or physical chemistry. If you're interested in working in the chemical industry or pursuing a Ph.D. program, this program is for you.
Professional Chemical Business (Non-Thesis)
The Professional Business Track combines chemistry with business management, partnering with the College of Business to provide a strong foundation in economics and industry-specific applications, preparing you for a leadership role in the chemical industry.
Professional Chemical Education (Non-Thesis)
Are you a chemistry educator looking to expand your knowledge and enhance your classroom experience? Our Professional Chemical Education Track gives you the tools to do so. You'll take additional courses from the College of Education through our program. This track also enables you to teach at the community college level.

If you have not already done so, complete the Request Information form. You will be connected with your enrollment specialist, who can answer your questions. When you’re ready, go ahead and follow the steps below to apply.

- Pay the $50 application fee.
Wait to receive an application confirmation email before proceeding to the next step.
- Within two business days of your application, the Graduate School will send a confirmation email to the personal email account you used for ApplyTexas.
Submit the following documents after you receive an application confirmation email.

- Bank statement from the sponsor with a balance of at least $33,601 USD which is less than six months old

You do not need to submit test scores if you have completed (all years) of a bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited university in the United States.
Request that your scores from one of the following be sent to East Texas A&M University:
- TOEFL (Minimum Scores: IBT 79, or CBT 213, or PBT 550)
- IELTS (Minimum Score: 6.00 band overall)
- PTE (Minimum Score: 53 overall or higher)
- Duo Lingo (Minimum Score: 105)
