Paul McCright, Ph.D.

Instructor

A graduate of Hooks High School in far northeast Texas, Dr. McCright has a BSIE from Texas Tech University, a MSE from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. Additionally, he has 30 years of teaching experience from Kansas State University, the University of South Florida and East Texas A&M University. Throughout his career, he has loved advising, mentoring and teaching students at all levels in general engineering, Industrial Engineering and both engineering and technology management.

A Conversation with Dr. McCright

What would you say to a student considering East Texas A&M?

You'll find the atmosphere at ETAMU to be very supportive with small class sizes, involved faculty and good facilities. It's a good degree program in a personally supportive setting.

What do you enjoy most about working at East Texas A&M, and why?

I love the small classes because I get to know my students much more than I could in the large classes I have taught previously.

In your opinion, what sets East Texas A&M apart from other universities?

The entire ETAMU campus seems to be a friendly, mutually supportive and concerned environment where everyone is appreciated and encouraged to excel.

What inspired you to pursue your career, and what continues to excite you about your discipline?

I left a professional career to enter academia because I thought the interactions with students would be exciting and fulfilling. I value the discipline of Industrial Engineering for its contributions to the improvement of society and love to share what great career opportunities it provides while helping my students gain the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking needed to be successful.

Which course have you most enjoyed teaching, and what made it memorable?

It's difficult to pick just one course. I think the IE capstone project course is one of the best because it is here the seniors get their best introduction to applying their IE skills to a realistic business situation.

What's an accomplishment that you're especially proud of, and why?

I am proud of the development of a strong connection between our E&T Department and the major new manufacturing company in Commerce called Solar76. I have worked hard for the past couple of years to cultivate that relationship and have seen the company gain from our efforts and have seen my students learn and grow by working various projects in this real company. The company has hired some of our graduates as permanent employees and has also hired several students as engineering interns. This is very gratifying work.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself or your experience at East Texas A&M?

I came to ETAMU at the end of a long career and will retire here. It has turned out to be a wonderful place to end this career.
