A Conversation with Esther
What is your major or dream career?
My major is Accounting, but I would love to work as a Forensic Accountant for the FBI.
What is your current campus involvement?
I am currently a part of the First-Gen Organization, Physics Club, Math Club, and D&D and Board Games Club.
Why do you think it is important to get involved on campus?
It’s important to get involved on campus because it not only enhances one’s college experience, but it also builds a network that starts here. The connections and community that we build here in our formative adult years can lead to many different opportunities later on. It also provides support during difficult times and builds better communication skills that are essential in all aspects of society.
What do you think the role of a Peer Mentor is?
To be a Peer Mentor is to be a guide and a confidant for incoming freshman students. The most important part of our role is that we are their peers. We set the example as to how to maximize the college experience. We use our lived experience as college students to provide a better college experience for future classes.
What’s a valuable piece of advice you might give a student at ETAMU?
A valuable piece of advice I would give a student at East Texas A&M is not to be afraid to take risks. While it may seem daunting at times, it often pays off in the long run. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t take any risks.
