Christopher Monschke was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved at a young age to North Texas. There, he attended both his primary and secondary education, eventually graduating from Lake Dallas High School where he was first introduced to the fundamentals of engineering. Chris had always had a fascination with machines, planes and cars, seeing every “black box” as a challenge to be taken apart and understood.

Following high school, Chris enrolled in the engineering program at East Texas A&M University (then Texas A&M University Commerce). Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, he remained active in student organizations, participating in Lion's Pride Robotics as a member and officer; in the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers as a member; and serving as the President of the Alpha Pi Mu honor society chapter. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.

A conversation with Christopher

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending East Texas A&M?

Go out and meet people, join clubs and activities. The groups and the people you'll meet through these will create some of the best influences you'll have in both your curriculum and your later career. These groups and people will provide you with opportunities you never knew you had and connect you to people and ideas from all over the world.

Why did you choose your major/what draws you to your discipline?

Engineering as a whole is a field that will always be stimulating, always learning and advancing. Industrial engineering specifically focuses on optimization, efficiency, safety and processes, to design and improve on everything from the layout of factories to the queues in theme parks. Some of the greatest satisfaction can come from seeing a change you made create real difference. This is chiefly why it appealed so much to me: its use of analytical tools and data to understand an issue and drive change.
