A Conversation with Andrew

What is your major or dream career?

Corporate Lawyer

What is your current campus involvement?

President of the Zeta Tau chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, African American Male Mentorship Program (AAMMP) Mentor, Honors College, Finance Society

Why do you think it is important to get involved on campus?

I think getting involved on campus is extremely important because it allows students to build a plethora of valuable skills, including leadership, communication, teamwork, and time management. Campus involvement also gives students the opportunity to build relationships, discover new interests, and gain experiences that prepare them for the real world after college.

What do you think the role of a Peer Mentor is?

I believe the role of a Peer Mentor is to be a resource, guide, and support system for incoming freshmen. A Peer Mentor should provide students with the advice and encouragement they need to be successful, especially the advice I wish I had received when I was in their shoes. It is also important to help students feel comfortable, connected, and confident as they adjust to college.

What’s a valuable piece of advice you might give a student at ETAMU?

One valuable piece of advice I would give a student at ETAMU is to find a healthy balance. College is about earning your degree, but it is also about growing as a person and enjoying the experience. Learn how to manage your time, stay focused on your responsibilities, get involved, build relationships, and still make time to enjoy college. Ultimately, your success is in your hands, so take advantage of the opportunities and resources available to you.
