Undergraduate Teacher Candidate Handbook:Program Governance
At East Texas A&M University, our Teacher Education Program navigates multiple levels of oversight, from state governance, university governance and shared governance.
State Governance
State Governance consists of three agencies within the State of Texas:
- State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
- Texas Education Agency (TEA)
- State Board of Education (SBOE)
University Governance
The Teacher Education Program is also subject to governance under three university-level departments:
- Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I)
- East Texas A&M University Educator Preparation Program (EPP)
- Office of Educator Certification and Academic Services
While these three bodies may make decisions relating to university-level standards, expectations, policies and procedures, state-level mandates supersede any and all policies set by East Texas A&M University or the Texas A&M University System.
Shared Governance
Finally, the program must navigate shared governance, which includes a range of internal and external programs, organizations and supervisory roles.
