A Conversation with Jessica
What inspired you to pursue your career, and what continues to excite you about your discipline?
My passion for education has always been rooted in helping others discover their potential and achieve goals they may not have thought possible; therefore, I was inspired to pursue a career in education. Watching individuals gain confidence, develop new skills, and grow through learning has reinforced my belief that education has the power to transform lives and strengthen communities. What continues to excite me about higher education is its ability to create lifelong opportunities for personal and professional growth. I enjoy working behind the scenes to help others succeed, whether that’s through improving processes, supporting academic programs, or collaborating with colleagues to create exceptional learning experiences. Additionally, I am especially interested in how innovation, leadership, and student-centered program design can enhance learning for working adult students and help them achieve their educational goals.

One project I am especially passionate about is my doctoral dissertation, which I am completing as part of my Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership. My research explores how the physical work environment influences employee psychological well-being. Through a qualitative case study, I am examining how employees perceive their work environments, what workplace characteristics contribute to or detract from well-being, and how organizations can create spaces that better support employee engagement, satisfaction, and overall success.
This project has combined many of my professional interests, including higher education, organizational leadership, employee well-being, and continuous improvement. It has challenged me to think critically about how organizational practices and workplace design impact the employee experience and, ultimately, organizational effectiveness. I enjoy researching practical, evidence based solutions that can help organizations foster healthier, more supportive work environments, and I look forward to applying what I learn throughout my career in higher education.
