A conversation with Jennifer

What do you enjoy most about working with students, and why?

What I enjoy most about my job is helping students discover that they are capable of more than they realize. Every student has a unique story, and I enjoy being a part of their journey by providing guidance, encouragement, and support as they work toward their goals. Whether I'm helping a student create a degree plan, overcome a challenge, or celebrate a milestone, it is rewarding to know that I played a small role in their success.

What is an important life lesson you’ve learned?

One of the most important life lessons I’ve learned is that growth often happens outside of your comfort zone, and persistence is more important than perfection. Some of the most meaningful opportunities in life can feel challenging or uncertain at first, but those experiences often lead to personal and professional growth. I’ve learned that progress is rarely a straight line, and setbacks are a normal part of any journey. What matters most is continuing to move forward, learning from each experience, and staying focused on your goals. Small, consistent steps over time can lead to incredible growth and success.

What is your favorite spot in Dallas and why?

One of my favorite spots in the Dallas area is the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. I enjoy spending time outdoors, and the Arboretum offers beautiful scenery, peaceful walking paths, and seasonal displays throughout the year (fall time = pumpkin displays). It's a great place to slow down, recharge, and appreciate the beauty of nature.

Who has been a role model for you and why?

My parents have been some of my greatest role models. They taught me the value of hard work, kindness, perseverance, and treating others with respect. Their example showed me the importance of helping others, staying true to your values, and continuing to grow throughout life. Those lessons have shaped both who I am as a person and how I approach my work with students.

What do you like to do when you're not working?

Outside of work and advising, I enjoy reading, traveling, crafting, and spending time with family and friends. I live in the Dallas–Fort Worth area with my husband and our pit bull, Zeus. We enjoy exploring local communities, cheering on Aggie sports, and spending time outdoors.

I'm also a big fan of the fall and winter seasons, iced coffee, and finding reasons to celebrate life's little moments. Most of all, I value quality time with family and friends and making memories with the people who matter most. These experiences help keep me grounded and remind me of the importance of connection, growth, and supporting others throughout their journeys.
