Growing up in a small rural community, my natural curiosity led to a lifelong love of learning, hands-on DIY projects, and tending to my garden. Alongside a passion for gaming, I bring that same creative, problem-solving energy to my work in education—striving every day to help build a brighter, better tomorrow.
A Conversation with Emily
How do you help students at East Texas A&M?
As a Learning Experience Designer, my primary focus is always on the student’s journey. By placing the learner at the center of every design choice, I transform complex concepts into intuitive, engaging pathways. I focus on how people actually process information, creating accessible, interactive, and relevant experiences that empower students to take ownership of their learning. Ultimately, my goal is to remove barriers to understanding so every student feels supported, confident, and equipped to achieve meaningful real-world growth.
How has your role changed since you began working at East Texas A&M?
Transitioning from librarianship to instructional design felt like a natural next step driven by my core passion for helping others discover, process, and apply knowledge. Both roles rest on the same foundation of information architecture, research, and learner-centered accessibility—organizing complex ideas so people can easily digest them. While my time as a librarian focused on curating pathways to existing information, my work as an learning experience designer allows me to build structured learning environments and experiences from the ground up, using technology, pedagogy, and design systems to turn raw knowledge into actionable growth.
What is something you enjoy about working at East Texas A&M?
I love the environment and sense of community here. Everyone has been extremely warm and welcoming since I started working here. I’ve felt like a part of the university since the beginning, rather than just another newcomer.
