Meet the Class of 2026: Celebrating Achievement, Resilience and What Comes Next
Graduation is almost here! As the East Texas A&M University Class of 2026 prepares to take the stage on May 8 and 9, we join them in celebrating this milestone. Their academic journeys have included both successes and setbacks, but they are defined above all by the perseverance and grit that carried them to this moment.
A Class Defined by Excellence and Determination
The 1,586 graduation candidates represent a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, coming together to form a strong class of scholars with big dreams and bold plans. They hail from 36 states and 15 countries—including 151 international students—creating a blend of perspectives that has enriched the learning experience. Among the graduates, 669 are graduating with academic distinction, reflecting the class's stellar work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Nearly 40% of this class—630 candidates—are first-generation students who have overcome daunting obstacles to reach the graduation stage. And with a 55-year age span between the youngest (18) and oldest (73) graduates, this class proves there is no single timeline for pursuing one's passions.
Behind the stats are 1,586 individuals with unique journeys who, through grit and determination, have balanced work, family, and coursework to achieve this milestone and create new opportunities for themselves and their loved ones.
Student Voices and Standout Stories
Among this year's commencement speakers are three outstanding members of the graduating class:
- Diego Flores, an English major and lead writing consultant in the ETAMU Writing Center, spent his time helping others find their voices while building his own as a researcher and artist.
- Jason Otah, a member of the Honors College, psychology graduate, and student-athlete, leaves a legacy of leadership and academic excellence, with plans to pursue a career in psychiatry.
- Tiffany Norman, a public administration and city planning graduate, proves it's never too late to pivot toward purpose, returning to school after a successful career to pursue a career more closely aligned with her interests.
Ready to Make an Impact
The 1,000+ undergraduate candidates have built solid educational foundations that will support their careers and pursuit of passions, from computer science and electrical engineering to nursing and elementary education.
