Office of First-Generation Student Success
Transform Your Future
First Generation Student Success at East Texas A&M University is a resource office dedicated to supporting students who are the first in their families to attend college. The office aims to help students feel like they belong at East Texas A&M and connects them with supportive campus resources.
First-Generation Students
First-generation students make up 67% of the undergraduate population at East Texas A&M. The university defines a first-generation student as an undergraduate or graduate student whose parent/s or guardian/s did not complete a four-year bachelor's college degree from an institution of higher education in the United States. If a student has only one primary parent or guardian, the education of the non-primary parent does not need to be considered.
The Office of First-Generation Success recognizes the multitude of family dynamics and understands that there may be students who identify as first-generation outside of this definition. We welcome all students who wish to engage with and receive support from our office—we are here to help.
