Current Honors College Student Guide: Current Student Resources

Graduating with Honors

Embark on a rewarding journey toward academic excellence! To celebrate your dedication and graduate with the prestigious Honors distinction, you will aim to fulfill these milestones:

  • 3.3 GPA at time of graduation
  • Completion and public presentation of capstone experience
  • Successfully complete the required number of Honors courses
  • Fulfill the required number of service hours (fellowship students)

Honors Credit for Non-Honors Courses

Choose courses within your major to self-direct your learning goals and wrestle with more challenging material. Work closely with your professors to complete a project, participate in research or reinforce an area of study through additional meaningful coursework.

Honors Scholar Program

The Honors Scholar Program provides students who are not in the Fellowship Program an opportunity to reap the benefits of the Honors experience and to graduate with an Honors designation.

Entry Points

You may enter the Honors Scholar Program through many avenues: Phi Theta Kappa transfer, nominations from your department, or joining the Honors Program later in your college experience.

How to Apply

Note: The Honors Scholar Program application is not for first-time incoming freshmen. Instead, freshmen should review the incoming freshmen application process.

Volunteer Hours

Students in the Honors College are required to complete a total of 96 community service hours, 10% of which should be earned from Honors College-affiliated events. To document your service hours, you must log them in ManeSync. The procedure for earning service hours is available in the Honors College Community Service Procedure.

Internships

As an Honors student, you have three options for completing your capstone requirement with an internship:

  • External (off-campus)
  • Internal (on-campus), or
  • Embedded within your major

Prior to your internship capstone, you are required to complete HC 302 – Applied Leadership.

For a description of HC 302 and other Honors courses, review the course catalog.
