University Police Charity Golf Tournament Raises $16,000 for Student Disability Services

The East Texas A&M University Police Department (UPD) presented a $16,000 donation to the university’s Student Disability Services office on Aug. 16, following the success of its second annual charity golf tournament held in May.

The tournament brought together 16 teams and 64 golfers, nearly doubling participation from last year’s inaugural event. Organized by the University Police Department’s golf committee, the event raised funds through sponsorships and community support.

Student Disability Services was selected as this year’s beneficiary because of its role in helping students with disabilities succeed by coordinating academic accommodations, providing assistive technology and ensuring equal access to the university’s educational programs and campus life.

“We are incredibly grateful to UPD for their generous donation, which will help Student Disability Services pay for assistive technology, specifically a note-taking app for use by students with disabilities,” said Carrie Williams, director of Student Disability Services.

Tournament organizers credited the event’s success to the dedication of volunteers, strong campus and community partnerships, and the generosity of sponsors. After hosting nine teams during last year’s inaugural tournament, organizers expanded to a larger course this year to accommodate increased interest and participation. With continued growth and positive feedback, the UPD plans to make the charity golf tournament an annual tradition.
