Student Experiential Learning

As our title implies, our farm is designed to provide student workers with the opportunity to learn “on the job”. Hosting events teaches planning and coordination. Growing seasonal produce teaches techniques in horticulture and agriculture. Assigning projects and research fosters the ability to work independently. The ultimate goal of Twin Oaks Farm is to create a community focused on growing students. Contact Dr. Grace Ogden about joining our team.

Events

We are most known for our seasonal U-picks, entailing inviting guests to the farm to forage for the produce of the season. But we host a plethora of other events, such as school field trips, yoga, seasonal holiday celebrations, tours, and public volunteering. We post all our events on our Facebook as well as the East Texas A&M Event Calendar. Can't wait to see ya'll out there!

Volunteering

Typical volunteering activities include maintaining our crop rows, limb and trash pick up, and assistance in projects or events. For the Spring 2026 season we have student volunteering from 1-4 p.m. every Thursday. If you have not already done so, you will be asked to sign a waiver. Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, sun protection and don't forget your water!

Student Research and Projects

Our students study a variety of topics, from new row cropping techniques, to soil management, and floating gardens. There are also a number of non-research projects that our students plan and participate in, with each project being designed to improve the farm. Completed student projects include our grape arches, our recipe book, and our wildflower field.

Donations

If you’re feeling generous, we’ll never say no to donations. We use those funds to facilitate student projects, student learning, and to improve the learning capacity of the farm. We greatly appreciate all forms of giving, not just hours of manual labor.

Products

We grow a lot of produce, and we do our best to not contribute to food waste. With some of it going to local food pantries, and the rest being offered for purchase. We offer regular U-picks for Pecans and Blueberries, and we currently still have some meats for sale. Soon, we hope to offer eggs, as well as a Twin Oaks baking recipe book, containing Joe and Jean's original recipes.
