Ryan couldn't have been more excited to “come back to school” when he was hired by his alma mater in January 2020. After graduating as a first-generation college student from Texas A&M University-Commerce (now East Texas A&M University) in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism, he went to work for Herald-Banner Publications in Greenville, Texas. While there, he served as a reporter, photographer and paginator for the Commerce Journal and other publications. Ryan left the Herald-Banner in early 2020 to pursue his current position in the Office of Marketing and Communications, and he loves his job! He also loves music and currently sings in a church choir each week. Ryan lives in Commerce, Texas with his wife Amanda, also a Lion alum and employee, and their little family, which consists of Arthur the Goldendoodle, Cooper the Cocker Spaniel, Emily the cat and Myrtle the turtle.

A Conversation with Ryan
What do you like most about your career?
I like being a part of many different campus events. From Homecoming to graduation and anything in between, I try to be there to document what is going on in photos, videos and writing to help share these great memories on social media. As a former reporter, being there where “it” is happening (whatever “it” is) is always something I look forward to.
How do you help students at East Texas A&M?
I help enhance the university experience by sharing photos and videos of university events, give them a heads up on upcoming events or university news, and overall help to build a sense of community in a digital space.
What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending East Texas A&M?
You will be hard-pressed to find an institution that provides as much educational value for your money as East Texas A&M. With more than 100 degree programs to choose from, there truly is something for everyone here to find their passion. Being a graduate of this institution is one of my proudest achievements, and I wouldn't go back and choose any other school.
