Profile for
Denise Rater
Administrative Coordinator
- Staff
I recently became the Administrative Coordinator for the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research. I have been an Administrative Associate at East Texas A&M for over seven years. When I started this role, I was not familiar with gamebirds so I am learning daily by listening to the researchers and students discuss their projects. My goal is to provide the Gamebird Research team with dedicated and consistent administrative support.
A Conversation with Denise Rater
Describe a moment in your work at the Lyon Center that was particularly exciting or meaningful.
The Gamebird Production Manager, Priscilla Inostroza, took me for a tour of the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research. She explained the process of egg to adult quail as we toured the facility. The tour helped me understand more about the gamebird industry and the importance of the research this Center will provide.
How has your time with the Lyon Center influenced your academic or career path?
I will be retiring in a few years and working for the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research is a great conclusion to my career. I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved in the opening of the Center. I look forward to witnessing the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research become an integral part of East Texas A&M and gaining national recognition for gamebird research.
What's a surprising or interesting fact about you?
I have lived in Commerce most of my life. I have two daughters and three grandchildren. Bridgette is mom to Collin and Kristal is mom to Brady and Grace. I am fortunate we all live close and are able to spend time together as a family frequently. I pet-sit for clients to pay for travel and my Broadway musical membership. I enjoy reading, walking, being with family and friends and watching reality tv.
