Lion Football Legend’s Debut Book Reaches Top of Amazon Charts

East Texas A&M alum and football star Luis Perez recently released his first book, which has already reached No. 1 on Amazon’s best-selling football biographies list in less than a week. “The Spring King: A Champion's Journey of Passion, Persistence, and Unlimited Possibility” chronicles Perez’s unlikely transformation from a high school bowler to becoming a champion quarterback at both the collegiate and professional levels. The book, published by Game Changer Publishing, was released on March 22 and is available in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats.

Following a two-year stint in junior college, Perez was the starting quarterback for the Lion football team in 2016 and 2017. He led the Lions to the NCAA Division II National Championship during his senior season in 2017. He was also awarded the Harlon Hill trophy as the best player at the Division II level that season. He left Lion Country as the university’s all-time leader in passing completions, yards and touchdowns. As a professional, Perez has made several training camp rosters for National Football League teams but has yet to appear in a regular season game. He has become a fixture in several Spring football leagues, such as the Alliance of American Football (2019), the XFL (2020, 2023), The Spring League (2021), The USFL (2022) and the UFL (2024-present). In 2023, Perez and the Arlington Renegades were crowned champions of the XFL, with Perez taking home championship game MVP honors after a three-touchdown performance.
