East Texas A&M Fair Connects Undergraduates With Graduate and Professional Schools
East Texas A&M University helped undergraduates explore what comes after their bachelor's degrees during its first TACRAO Graduate School and Professional Fair on Sept. 24.
Held in the Rayburn Student Center, the event brought 84 students together with representatives from 17 graduate and professional schools to discuss programs, admissions requirements, scholarships and funding opportunities.
TACRAO, the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, supports recruitment efforts that connect students with higher education opportunities. East Texas A&M has participated in graduate recruitment events at other universities for years. Hosting the fair brought those opportunities directly to its own students.
“Hosting the first TACRAO Graduate School and Professional fair on our campus was important because it gave our students an opportunity to explore graduate and professional education options without leaving campus,” said Jennifer Faunce, director of graduate enrollment management.
Participating institutions included Amberton University, Dallas Baptist University, Drexel University, Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Specialized programs included the SMU Lyle School of Engineering and Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine.
The Graduate School and Office of Student Career Preparedness collaborated to organize the fair, which drew students from all six colleges. Faunce noted strong interest in veterinary and medical schools. Organizers hope to continue the event next year and expand participation to include law and dental schools.
For students considering their next steps, East Texas A&M's Graduate School offers programs that prepare graduates for professional careers, teaching, administration and research. Graduate assistantships provide opportunities for financial assistance and professional experience.
