East Texas A&M is a great place to learn, connect, and get the help you need, whether that’s research support or just a comfortable spot to focus.

How do you help students at East Texas A&M?
I help students by connecting them with the resources and spaces they need to succeed. Drawing on my experience as both a classroom teacher and a school librarian, I focus on building research confidence and critical thinking skills. My goal is to empower students to become lifelong learners who can navigate complex information environments with confidence.
What drew you into your discipline/career?
I have always been passionate about helping people grow and learn through independent learning experiences. While teaching 8th grade history, I noticed that the district curriculum offered limited opportunities for independent research. To address this, I collaborated with my school librarian to design a comprehensive learning module focused on self-directed study. That experience sparked my interest in librarianship and ultimately led me to become a school librarian in 2008, serving middle and high school students across the DFW metroplex.
After more than 20 years in K–12 education, first as a classroom teacher and then as a school librarian, I wanted to expand my impact by supporting lifelong learning and practical research skills within a broader academic community. This desire to work with college students and contribute to their success inspired my transition to academic librarianship.
What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending East Texas A&M?
I'd tell them they'll find a welcoming campus with great resources to support their success. Our library just went through major renovations, so students have access to modern study spaces, updated technology, and plenty of quiet and collaborative areas. It's a great place to learn, connect, and get the help you need, whether that's research support or just a comfortable spot to focus.
