The Morris Recreation Center Unveils New and Improved Fitness Space
The Morris Recreation Center has completed a major upgrade to its strength and cardio facilities, further enhancing the fitness experience for students and campus members. The former blue equipment has been replaced with sleek, padded black machines that offer a modern look.
The new fitness space features nine new squat racks and a full set of brand‑new dumbbells, creating more room and opportunities for heavy lifting and strength development.
The newly added turf zone includes a multifunctional fitness rig equipped with punching bags, kettlebells, a rope‑pull station, and a slam wall, expanding options for functional and high‑intensity training.
On the main fitness floor, students will now find 14 new pieces of cardio equipment, including two Peloton bikes, along with 33 upgraded pin‑select machines and 20 plate‑loaded strength machines.
These additions provide the campus community with greater variety and flexibility to explore new workouts, build confidence, and pursue their fitness goals in an upgraded environment designed with student wellbeing in mind.
Autumn Johnson, executive director of Health and Wellbeing, highlighted the positive impact of the renovation:
“The new fitness floor at the MRC creates opportunities for every student, whether they're just getting started or already committed to their fitness journey. By providing modern and accessible spaces, we are helping students thrive physically, mentally, and socially. This environment directly impacts both wellbeing and academic success.”
The upgraded fitness space is just one phase of a larger expansion project at Morris Recreation Center. The expansion, which is still underway, also includes a modern, more accessible entrance and lobby, along with an expanded group fitness studio.
