Stock Horse Team Takes Home Several Accolades at Regional Championship

The East Texas A&M University Stock Horse team came away with several high achievements–including an All-Around Championship–at the Central Texas Stock Horse Limestone Region Championship Clinic & Show held in Groesbeck, Texas.

In stock horse competitions, riders and their mounts compete across a series of disciplines designed to show the skills of both horse and rider in numerous ranching-related tasks.

East Texas A&M student Maddie Prince, a sophomore majoring in Agribusiness from Tillamook, Ore., and her mare “Tari at Five” took home the Novice Division All-Around Championship. Her individual event results included wins in the Cow Horse and Reining events, second in Pleasure and third in Trail.

Megan Harding, a sophomore majoring in Equine Studies from Mesquite, Texas, and her mare “De Luxe China” were not far behind, finishing runner-up in the Novice All-Around competition. Harding finished first in Pleasure, and second place in Trail, Reining, and Cow Horse.

Another excellent achievement was by Ellie Baumert, a senior majoring in Equine Studies from Dodge, Neb., and university-owned horse “TAMUC Blue Jeans,” who finished third in Pleasure and fifth in Trail at the pair's first-ever show.

In addition to their individual accolades, the team conducted a clinic the day before the competition, teaching other riders horsemanship skills.
