Music Student Named to National Flute Association Choir
East Texas A&M University flutist Lyn Hoang was recently named to the National Flute Association’s (NFA) Professional Flute Choir. One of just 14 chosen nationwide, this honor reflects Hoang’s artistry and talent with the instrument.
Hoang, from Arlington, Texas, is a graduate student who is set to earn her master’s in Music Performance this Spring. Selection to the NFA Professional Flute Choir is based on rigorous recorded auditions that require professional-level technical skill, musicality and artistry, making this achievement a significant recognition of the abilities of the flutist. Members of the Professional Flute Choir perform at the NFA annual convention, scheduled for August 6-9 in Portland, Ore.
“One of the most meaningful parts of music-making for me has been the camaraderie and collaboration aspects of it, which I've especially experienced within the ETAMU music ensembles andĀ fluteĀ studio,” Hoang said. “Those experiences have prepared me to step into the professional music world, and I'm excited to continue growing as a musician.”
In addition to her studies, she also serves as a teaching assistant within the ET Flute Studio under the direction of Dr. Julee Kim Walker.
Incorporated in 1973, the NFA serves as a professional organization to advance the art of flute playing nationwide. Throughout its history, the organization has commissioned nearly 100 new pieces of music, held 50 national conferences, and published the “Flutist Quarterly” magazine for several decades.
