Lion Community Showcased for Parents at Annual Family Weekend

East Texas A&M University recently welcomed parents, guardians and loved ones of Lion students at its annual Family Weekend event on Sept. 11 and 12.

The campus was buzzing with activity as several events were held to show families what life in Lion Country is all about. Highlights included:

  • Hands-on demonstrations at the Jimmy and Sherrol Shirley Makerspace
  • Planetarium showings
  • A Dolly Parton-inspired celebration of reading
  • Family bingo
  • Lion football tailgate

The weekend concluded with the Lion Football home opener, which saw the Blue & Gold walk away with a 38-14 victory over Northwestern State.

Families had a lot to smile about after the weekend was over.

“We had a wonderful time,” said Leslie Williams, a parent from Aubrey, Texas. “There was plenty to see and do.”

Greg Dandio, a parent from Victoria, Texas, added that it was great to see the school spirit on display across campus.

“It was nice to experience the environment on campus and sense the spirit of the university,” Dandio said.
