Graduate Student Receives National Agriculture Education Scholarship

East Texas A&M University graduate student, alumna and U.S. Army veteran Melody Carmack was named one of 11 nationwide recipients of a $1,000 scholarship from the Rural Gone Urban Foundation.

Carmack is a 2024 graduate of East Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and is currently pursuing an M.S. in Agricultural Sciences. In addition to her studies, she serves as an agronomy research associate in the university’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

After joining the Army at just 19 years old, Carmack served for five years and rose to the rank of sergeant. In 2024, she received the Army Special Training Program Unit 4813 Memorial Scholarship as part of East Texas A&M’s 34th annual Veterans Vigil program.

The Rural Gone Urban Foundation was established in 2022 to elevate and support rural women. In addition to academic scholarships, the foundation awards grants to rural small businesses and assistance to women battling cancer.
