ETAMU’s Fuseini Anchors Ghana to World Champs Qualification
East Texas A&M University sprinter Ibrahim Fuseini (Accra, Ghana) anchored the Ghanaian Men’s 4×100 relay team at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, and earned qualification for the World Outdoor Athletics Championships, scheduled for September 13–21, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan.
In the first round at the World Relays, participating nations compete in four heats of six teams. The top two teams from each heat qualify for the World Championships, as well as the finals of the World Relays. Team Ghana, composed of Barnabas Aggerh, Joseph Paul Amoah, Sean Safo-Antwi and Fuseini, just missed qualification by six hundredths of a second, finishing with a time of 38.49 seconds.
Non-qualifying teams moved on to a second round of heats, where the top two finishers again earned qualification for the World Championships. Fuseini, joined by Aggerh, Amoah and Mustapha Alufar Bokpin, finished second in their heat with a time of 38.32 seconds, just one hundredth of a second behind top-finisher France. Fuseini’s final leg of 9.04 seconds was the fastest single leg out of all runners in his heat, and the third-fastest across all runners in the second round. Ghana’s second-place finish secured its spot in September’s championships.
Fuseini returns to the United States with hopes to finish his collegiate season strong at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, scheduled for May 15–17 in Houston, Texas.
