East Texas A&M Students Showcase AI Innovation at 2026 Hackathon

East Texas A&M University students shined at the 2026 University Hackathon, the largest innovation and problem-solving competition in East Texas, held March 24-31 at the university's Dallas campus.

Hosted annually by East Texas A&M, the Hackathon challenged student teams to solve real-world industry problems using analytics, artificial intelligence and software development. This year's competition focused on building a fintech fraud detection model.

Students from the university's College of Business and College of Science and Engineering collaborated in teams throughout the weeklong event, guided by faculty mentors and industry professionals.

ETAMU students earned multiple recognitions during the competition, including:

  • First Place: Jessica Parra Serena, Juanita Marin Tabares and Trisha Harjono
  • Second Place: Adeel Shahzad and Riya Jain
  • Third Place: Manushi Parajuli

Dr. Son Bui, faculty mentor and event coordinator, said the competition gives students valuable experience applying classroom knowledge to industry challenges.

“Each year, the Hackathon empowers our students to tackle real industry challenges using analytics, AI, and bold creative thinking,” Bui said. “This year's results showcase not only their technical excellence, but their drive to push the boundaries of innovation.”

The College of Business at East Texas A&M emphasizes hands-on learning, industry engagement and emerging technologies to prepare students for careers in today's evolving business landscape.
