East Texas A&M Social Work Programs Earn 8-Year Reaffirmation

East Texas A&M University's School of Social Work has received reaffirmation of accreditation for both its Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs, securing accreditation for the next eight years. The reaffirmation, granted by the Council on Social Work Education, ensures that students in both programs continue to receive education aligned with national standards for professional practice.

Accreditation is a vital marker of quality in higher education, particularly for fields like social work where professional readiness is essential. With reaffirmation in place, East Texas A&M students can be confident their degrees will prepare them to meet licensure requirements and pursue diverse career paths in social work.

The reaffirmation comes at a significant moment for the university as the MSW program celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Over the past quarter century, the program has graduated social workers who serve in hospitals, schools, community organizations and agencies across Texas and beyond.

Among the distinguished alums of East Texas A&M’s MSW program are Dave Prince (’16), a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and naval officer who has been recognized for his suicide prevention program; Tammy Finney (’20), LCSW and women and family services program coordinator at The Salvation Army in Dallas; and Awstin Gregg (’15), CEO of Connections Wellness Group and 2019’s Entrepreneur of the Year according to Murray Media Group.

The 25-year milestone and history of successful graduates highlights ETAMU's longstanding commitment to educating professionals who are ready to support individuals, families, and communities.

Prospective students considering a career in social work will find both the BSW and MSW programs structured to combine academic rigor with real-world experience. Field education, faculty mentorship and a strong network of alumni provide pathways for students to enter the profession prepared to make an impact.

With reaffirmed accreditation and a 25-year history of excellence, East Texas A&M's School of Social Work continues to shape the next generation of social work leaders. For more information on these programs, you may contact Department Head Marcella Smith.
