East Texas A&M Hosts Regional Education Workshop

More than 100 school board trustees from 16 school districts gathered at East Texas A&M University on May 13 for the annual School Board Workshop, an event designed to explore the evolving challenges and responsibilities of public school leadership.

Held in partnership with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), the workshop took place in the Sam Rayburn Student Center and brought together education leaders from across Regions 7, 8 and 10. The day-long event included five general sessions focused on issues ranging from budget management and governance to legislative updates and the unique needs of small school districts. Attendees had the opportunity to earn up to 6.5 continuing education credit hours.

In addition to current trustees, students enrolled in the superintendent certification program offered jointly by East Texas A&M and Region 10 Education Service Center (ESC-10) attended the event as part of their hands-on leadership training. Their participation emphasized the university's commitment to cultivating the next generation of school administrators through real-world engagement with public education governance.

The workshop’s agenda also featured specialized training for new board members, giving prospective superintendents a deeper look into the trustee-superintendent relationship that helps drive school district success.

The event reflects East Texas A&M's ongoing efforts to support public education and professional advancement through partnerships that connect theory with practice, giving students insight into the collaborative nature of school district leadership.
