East Texas A&M Bookstore Sees Refreshed Identity Under New Follett Management

Illinois-based educational services provider has an impressive history stretching back more than 150 years.

The on-campus bookstore at East Texas A&M University is under new management after the university entered into an agreement with Follett Higher Education this summer.

Follett will now oversee the operations of the store in the Rayburn Student Center, which supplies students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public with textbooks, university-branded merchandise, school supplies, software, snacks and more.

The switchover to Follett comes following a more-than-20-year period of management by the Texas Book Company, a business founded by Lion alum Rene' Griffin. The changeover officially began on July 24.

Travis Ball, executive director of business services and chief procurement officer at East Texas A&M, said customers can expect a new look and new items the next time they stop by the bookstore.

“Follett will refresh the store's interior, branding and layout to enhance the customer experience,” Ball said. “The partnership introduces new merchandise and expanded brand offerings through a three-tiered assortment model, providing choices from value to premium brands. The store will also feature an extensive selection of accessories, gifts, gameday merchandise and technology products, including brands such as Apple, Lenovo and Dell.”

Follett brings a wealth of experience as the largest campus retailer in higher education. With a history spanning more than 150 years, the company now partners with more than 1,000 colleges and universities across North America.

Ball said that Follett's easy-to-use course materials platform and expanded selection of items were major factors in the company's selection to manage the ETAMU bookstore.

“We selected Follett as our new bookstore provider after a comprehensive review focused on enhancing the student and community experience,” Ball said. “Their user-friendly course materials platform, expanded textbook and merchandise options, and commitment to affordability will provide students and patrons with more accessible resources and improved service. Additional benefits include used and rental textbooks, digital content, price match and buyback programs, and on-demand merchandise for apparel.”

Follett's CEO, Emmanuel Kolady, expressed excitement for the opportunity to partner with East Texas A&M.

“Our partnership with East Texas A&M is about creating an experience that puts students and the campus community first,” Kolady said. “From affordable course materials to new merchandise and an updated store environment, we are excited to bring together the resources students need with an experience that celebrates what it means to be a Lion.”
