University Police Raise $7,400 for Lion Food Pantry at Inaugural Golf Tournament

The East Texas A&M University Police Department raised $7,400 for the Lion Food Pantry during its first-ever charity golf tournament, hosted at Sand Hills Golf and Country Club, in nearby Campbell.

Nine teams of four players competed in the tournament, with entry fees and sponsorships generating the funds. McGough, a construction firm currently building the university's new Agricultural Multipurpose Education and Training Center, served as the tournament sponsor. Additional support came from platinum sponsor Freedom Buick GMC Greenville and gold sponsor Hoar Construction.

Proceeds from the tournament will directly benefit the Lion Food Pantry, which helps combat food insecurity among students. Many students arrive on campus with limited resources and experience managing their basic needs. Hunger can make it difficult to focus on academics, sleep or engage fully in student life. The pantry provides a range of food and personal care items, all purchased through donations or donated directly, to support students' well-being and academic success.

In addition to food and hygiene items, the Lion Food Pantry includes a student wardrobe. By appointment, students may access the wardrobe up to five times per semester and select three articles of clothing per visit to keep.

The Lion Food Pantry operates year-round—open Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during summer months and on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the fall and spring semesters. The pantry is located on the back side of the Performing Arts Center, with its entrance facing the parking lot in front of the Nursing and Health Science Building.

Detective Sergeant Jason Irwin and Process and Compliance Coordinator Mandy Shaw of the University Police Department stated they intend to make the tournament an annual tradition, with the goal of increasing participation and donations in the future.
