TAMUC Department of Chemistry Selected for Renewed REU Grant

The A&M-Commerce Department of Chemistry is the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant for continued funding of the department's summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). The grant will fund REU summer programs through 2024 for community college students interested in chemistry.
“Our REU program has supported community college students in North Texas since 2006,” said Professor Ben Jang, D.Sc., who serves as director of the program. “It's a great tradition that continues to build the university's reputation for research and mentorship among community college faculty in the region.”
The 10-week summer REU program hosts students from community colleges in the North Texas region. Participants learn lab skills, instrumentation techniques, technical writing and presentation skills and research ethics. They'll also apply teamwork and network-building skills while gaining an appreciation for what it takes to be a successful professional in the fields of chemistry and science.
REU research results are often published in peer-reviewed journals or presented at American Chemical Society conferences.
