A current graduate student’s artwork is featured in an ongoing exhibition showcasing outstanding pieces from MFA students across the region.

Kay Ford, currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at East Texas A&M University, was one of 11 students at North Texas universities selected for inclusion in the Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas’ inaugural MFA Showcase. Throughout the month of September, the 11 students had one selected artwork exhibited at a partner gallery in the DFW area. Ford’s piece is on exhibition at the Erin Cluely Gallery in Dallas’ Design District.

Using collage as both a process and an art form, Ford investigates how objects in environments hold symbolic meaning and become mythic in memory, how the details of behavior spur the dynamism of location, and how imagination creates a setting filled with miniature templates of reality. Ford’s work has been exhibited in the Annual Texas Juried Exhibition at Artspace 111 in Fort Worth, Texas, the 38th September Competition at the Alexandria Museum of Art in Alexandria, La., and the President's Gallery at East Texas A&M.

The showcase will culminate in a reception on Sept. 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at 2720 Bataan Street, Dallas, Texas 75212. There, guests can meet the artist and cast votes for the winner, who will receive a $2,500 prize.
