Lions Give Back During The Big Event 2026
Students, faculty and staff from East Texas A&M University came together March 28 for The Big Event, completing service projects across the Commerce community.
Approximately 193 volunteers participated, serving at 44 locations that included private residences, local organizations and community spaces. Organized through the Office of Student Engagement, the annual event is one of the university's largest service initiatives.
Participants completed a variety of projects such as yard work, gardening, planting flowers, organizing spaces and general cleanup efforts. The projects are designed to support local residents while strengthening the connection between the university and the surrounding community.
Kailee Bennett, civic engagement coordinator, said the event provides students with an opportunity to build connections and develop a sense of civic responsibility.
“The Big Event is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when our students come together with a shared purpose,” Bennett said. “Not only are they making a visible impact in the Commerce community, but they are also building lasting connections and a strong sense of service that extends beyond a single day.”
