Lion Athletics Raises $102,880 During Lion Athletics Scholarship Fund Giving Day

Following a relaunch of its comprehensive fundraising strategy announced last month, Texas A&M University-Commerce Athletics raised a total of $102,880 during its first Lion Athletics Scholarship Fund Giving Day on March 5. During the 24-hour initiative, the department surpassed its inaugural goals of $100,000 from 100 donors, receiving contributions supporting all 14 Division I sport programs, the Lion Athletics Scholarship Fund, and the cheer and dance programs from a total of 130 donors.
“We want to thank all the generous donors who helped make our Giving Day a success. It takes the generosity of Lion Nation to continue to provide scholarships and enhance the student-athlete experience at A&M-Commerce.” said Deputy Athletics Director for Revenue Generation Josiah Castro “We are building a Division I championship culture, and the continued support from our donors ensures success in the classroom and in competition. This Giving Day highlighted that commitment and support.”
The Lion Athletics Department extends a special thank you to those alumnae and longtime donors who supported matching gifts as part of the Lion Athletics Giving Day, to include Robert Rhoads ’67, Sandra ’63 and Gary Fernandes, Kip McAlister ’93, Jennifer Lacy ’95, and Sue Davis. Director of Athletics Jim Curry also donated $5 for every gift made on Giving Day.
Each and every dollar raised during the Lion Athletics Giving Day provides transformational opportunities to student-athletes, helping them pursue excellence in competition and in the classroom.
