ETAMU Student, Alums Shine at International Equine Competition
East Texas A&M University's Tim Smith and Florence Bryant competed well and took home accolades from the 20th annual National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) World Show, held August 7-17 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Smith, a recent graduate from the East Texas A&M Equine Studies program, took home the Reserve World Championship in the “Heroes on Horses” Western Pleasure class, riding his mount “Dontcha Love Charlie.” Western Pleasure is a discipline in equine competition that measures the manners and suitability of a horse with a relaxed, slow cadence, judging if the horse is a “pleasure” to ride. Bryant, an Agricultural Sciences graduate student, finished eighth in the same category riding “Potential Advantage.” Bryant also graduated from East Texas A&M with a B.S. in Equine Studies.
The NSBA World Show is the pinnacle event for competition in Western Pleasure events.
The Heroes on Horses division is reserved for U.S. Military veterans. Both Smith and Bryant are U.S. Army veterans. The pair previously competed in a Heroes on Horses event at the American Paint Horse Association World Championship Horse Show in Fort Worth, Texas earlier this summer.
