East Texas A&M Teams Make Strong Showing at Math Bowl

At the annual meeting of the Texas Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), two East Texas A&M University teams successfully competed in the event's Math Bowl, which was held on March 28 at Prairie View A&M University.
Teams from universities across the state participated in the Math Bowl, with questions on calculus, math history and other math topics posed one at a time to each team. The teams were then scored on the quickness and accuracy of their answers.
Coached by math instructors Rebecca Steward and Adam Bowden, both East Texas A&M teams finished in the top 10 of the 25-team field. Team One, consisting of East Texas A&M students Jonathan Enright, Nicholas Cox, Xavier Grundler and Karson Lamar, came in second place. Team Two, including students Star Nouanesengsy, August Doss, Kitty Todd, Sherman Losey and Jayden Rex, finished in seventh place.
Since 2012, the East Texas A&M Math Bowl teams have competed in this event several times, finishing first place overall three times during that span. To learn more about the Math Club and upcoming MAA events, contact mathematics instructors Adam Bowden or Rebecca Steward.
