Dell Representatives Showcase Various Innovations at ETAMU ‘AI Day’
Four employees of Dell Technologies visited East Texas A&M University last week to present on several topics surrounding artificial intelligence, or AI, to students, faculty and staff.
Dubbed “AI Day,” an audience gathered on the second floor of the Velma K. Waters Library to ask essential questions about AI to experts in the field, view a demonstration of Dell's Digital Assistant, “Andie,” and get a sneak peek at the new AI Innovation Lab coming to Waters Library.
The sessions were divided by audience: one for students and one for university faculty and staff. Students were tasked to evaluate how they use artificial intelligence and the roles it can serve, while also avoiding the pitfalls of the developing technology. Faculty and staff viewed slides outlining methods for responsibly using AI in an educational setting.
Common questions from guests included “What happens to inputted data in a large-language model?” and “What are some of the legal or ethical issues with AI usage today?” One of the significant takeaways from the presentations was that, while powerful, AI raises many ethical questions and should be used responsibly. “We still need humans to make ‘value judgements' where accountability is a major factor,” said Dell representative Craig Allen.
