
AgriLife Agent and ETAMU Instructor Awarded County Agent of the Year
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agent and East Texas A&M University Adjunct Instructor Dr. David Drake was recently recognized as the 2025 Texas Wheat County Agent of the Year by the Texas Wheat Producers Board.
Drake, whose primary appointment is with AgriLife, works closely with East Texas A&M students on agronomy research at the university’s Agriculture Research Farm in Greenville, Texas. He also teaches the PLS 420 Crop Practicum course as an adjunct.
With AgriLife, Drake serves as an extension program specialist. The counties he works with include Bowie, Camp, Cass, Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Delta, Denton, Fannin, Franklin, Grayson, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Lamar, Morris, Rains, Red River, Rockwall, Tarrant, Titus and Van Zandt counties.
According to the Texas Wheat Producers Board, approximately 200,000 acres of wheat are planted annually in Drake’s constituent area. According to the award citation, Drake provides area producers with critical, research-based information to improve decisions about variety selection, fertilizer application, crop rotation, pest and disease control, and the responsible use of crop protection products. Survey results show that farmers in the area highly value his contributions.
