Admissions Resources: International Baccalaureate Diploma Program®

What Is The IB Program?

The International Baccalaureate (IB)* program is a rigorous pre-university program, primarily aimed at students aged 16 to 19, available worldwide through the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). The IB Diploma Program is a challenging two-year curriculum leading to assessment in six subject areas (Best Language, Second Language, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Science, Mathematics and Computer Science, and the Arts). The subject exams are scored on a 1-7 scale by a panel of international examiners. A minimum score of 4 is required to be considered for credit.

*In compliance with SB111, ETAMU offers at least 24 hours of credit to all IB diploma candidates with subject exam scores of 4 or higher.
Students with IB certificates or individual exam scores will have their transcripts evaluated on a subject by subject basis.

East Texas A&M University must receive official scores directly from IB to consider awarding credit.

How Are Students Assessed?

At the end of the two-year program, students are assessed both internally by teachers, who mark individual pieces of work produced as part of a course of study and externally in ways that measure individual performance against stated objectives for each subject. The grading system is criterion based (results are determined by performance against set standards, not by each student's position in the overall rank order). The
grades awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest). The diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points, subject to certain minimum levels of performance across the whole diploma and to satisfactory participation in creativity, action, and service (CAS).
