Christian Guillén serves as Assistant Director of Bands at East Texas A&M University. An educator, conductor, composer, arranger and marching arts designer, he brings extensive experience in secondary and collegiate music education, ensemble leadership, program administration and student development. A two-time graduate of East Texas A&M, Mr. Guillén earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting. During his graduate studies, he studied conducting and rehearsal techniques with Mr. Phillip Clements and Dr. Stephanie DeLuca while serving as Graduate Teaching Assistant for the university band program. In that role, he supported all facets of the concert and athletic band programs through conducting rehearsals and performances, teaching undergraduate conducting courses, coordinating ensemble operations, assisting with recruitment and auditions and supporting major School of Music events. As an undergraduate, he performed with the university's Wind Ensemble and Trombone Choir throughout the United States and Europe and served on the instructional staff of the Pride Marching Band.
Prior to returning to East Texas A&M, Mr. Guillén served as Assistant Director of Bands at Marshall High School from 2018 to 2024, where he conducted the Symphonic Band, taught AP Music Theory and taught beginning band classes at Marshall Junior High School. He also served as the primary arranger and show designer for the Big Red Pride Marching Band while supporting curriculum development, leadership training, recruitment, event planning and program administration. Earlier in his career, he taught at L.V. Berkner High School and Apollo Junior High School in Richardson ISD. An active composer, arranger, and marching arts designer, Mr. Guillén has written for high school and collegiate ensembles throughout the United States, with productions appearing at state marching contests in multiple states and earning finalist and award-winning performances at regional Bands of America events. His work in the marching arts has also allowed him to collaborate with and learn from educators and designers associated with the Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Blue Knights, Cavaliers and Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2015, he was selected as a featured winner of the Dallas Winds Fanfare Competition. Mr. Guillén is a member of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
