TAMUC Fishing Club Members Qualify for College National Championships Following Recent Successes

Two members of the Fishing Club at Texas A&M University-Commerce will have a chance to show off their angling skills at the championship level following recent high finishes at major tournaments. The team of Gus McLarry and Jared West took home a 12th-place finish out of 240 teams at the 2024 Strike King Bassmaster College Series, hosted February 1 and 2 at Clarks Hills Reservoir in Columbia County, Georgia. McLarry and West’s combined 10 fish total weighed in at 32 pounds and four ounces. In addition, McLarry was awarded a $300 bonus prize from Garmin for being the highest-placed finisher using all Garmin electronics during the competition. In their previous outing before this, the two-man team took home a third-place finish out of 67 teams at the Collegiate Bass Trail of Texas tournament held at Lake Pat Mayse in November 2023. The recent successes for McLarry and West have qualified them for the 2024 Bassmaster College National Championship, which is typically held in August each year. Tournament information will be released later in the summer.
