Serving Up Success: Gracie Campbell on Leadership, Balance, and Finding Purpose at the College of Business
Transferring to the College of Business at East Texas A&M University in spring 2024 marked the start of a new chapter for Gracie Campbell — one that allowed her to challenge herself both academically and athletically. Now a Business Administration junior and member of the East Texas A&M volleyball team, she's thriving on and off the court.
Originally from Texas, Gracie's passion for business began at home.
“Growing up, I saw how business is about building relationships, solving problems, and creating opportunities, which are all things that really resonate with me,” she said. “I'm excited about this field because it offers so much versatility and room for growth, whether that's in sales, marketing, or management.”
What ultimately drew her to the College of Business was the personal connection she felt from the very beginning.
“During my visit, I had the opportunity to meet the dean, who took the time to answer my questions and address my concerns. That made a lasting impression and showed me how approachable and supportive the faculty are here,” she recalled.
That sense of support has stayed with her ever since. Between early-morning practices, late-night study sessions, and weekend travel, Gracie has learned how to make balance a priority.
“Communication and organization are everything,” she explained. “I make sure to talk to my professors ahead of time about travel, and I use every moment, even on the road, to stay caught up. Success isn't about being perfect; it's about staying consistent.”
Her consistency shows. Gracie has earned a place on the President's List in both Spring 2024 and 2025 while helping lead her team to major wins. One of her favorite memories came when she scored the game-winning point against Abilene Christian University, sealing the match with 22 kills and 12 digs to earn Player of the Game honors.
Gracie credits Coach Joe Morales for helping her grow into a confident leader and person of faith.
“He's helped me grow not only as an athlete but also as a person, encouraging me to be confident in myself and to take on a leadership role on the court,” she shared.
Volleyball, she says, has been more than just a sport — it's been a source of purpose, discipline, and belonging.
“It's taught me the value of hard work, discipline, and resilience, and it's made me naturally competitive in the best way, always striving to improve,” Gracie said. “The lessons I've learned on the court, like leadership, teamwork, and staying composed under pressure, have carried over into my academics and everyday life. Volleyball has helped me grow not just as an athlete, but also as a person.”
It's also where she found her closest friendships. “Beyond that, what really made me fall in love with volleyball was the team aspect. Some of my closest, lifelong friendships have come from being part of a team that truly supports one another,” she added
For students hoping to balance academics with other passions, Gracie's message is simple but powerful: “Develop strong time-management skills, stay organized, and use your time wisely — but also enjoy every moment. College goes by so fast, so appreciate each opportunity while you can.”
Gracie Campbell's story reflects what ETAMU strives to cultivate — confident, disciplined, and community-minded students prepared to succeed in every arena.
