School of Music Inviting Prospective Students to Live the Life of a ‘Lion For a Day’

The School of Music at East Texas A&M aims to give future students a taste of the Lion experience with its “Lion for a Day” program.

The program, which is free and open to all high school or college transfer students, allows participants to experience what a typical day looks like for a student majoring in music at East Texas A&M. Participating students will shadow a peer in attending classes and ensemble rehearsals, and even receive a one-on-one lesson from one of our university's world-class faculty. The program is open to both vocalists and instrumentalists.

Hannah Weller is assistant director of bands and the coordinator of the “Lion for a Day” program at East Texas A&M. She says that this program is helpful for students, as experiencing ensemble culture and mentorship from applied instructors are large determining factors in a music student's choice of higher learning institution.

“It's important for students to connect with instructors early in the college-decision process,” Weller said. “We hope that providing these opportunities can help make a prospective student's choice easier when choosing which school to attend.”

“We want students to see themselves thriving here,” she added.

The free program is by appointment only and is available for either a half- or full-day option. For more information or to sign up, visit the program webpage.
